Dr. Susan Sheehy, the daughter of a career army officer, spent her childhood living across the country before settling in Alabama. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in audiology at the University of Alabama prior to beginning her career as a clinical audiologist in Huntsville.

In 2005, she received her doctorate in audiology from Salus University (formerly PCO School of Audiology). Dr. Sheehy is one of a specialized subset of audiologists certified in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT). By appointment from the governor, she has served as a member and chairperson of the Alabama Board of Examiners in speech-language pathology and audiology.

Dr. Sheehy believes good communication is essential to every person’s happiness and well-being. “For me, serving as an audiologist is a way to dramatically improve the lives of my patients. I strive to treat each of my patients with absolute integrity and honesty; I listen to them, cry with them, and receive far more from my relationship with them than they can imagine. When a patient tells me how much they love their hearing aids, or that I am their ‘hero,’ I realize that what I do truly makes a difference!”

Her favorite thing about the Alabama Hearing Associates team is “working with others who are as passionate as I am about improving patients’ lives through better hearing.”

Outside of the office, Dr. Sheehy and her husband Chris live in Huntsville. Son, C.J. and daughter, Caitlin, live and work nearby. She loves to exercise and can be found weight-training in the gym, hiking on Monte Sano, or practicing yoga. Most weekends, she spends outside in her yard working in her flowerbeds and organic garden.
