Lindsey Jorgensen is an audiologist at USD. The USD clinic sees adults and children for their audiology and speech-language needs.
Dr. Lindsey Jorgensen is Chair and Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at the University of South Dakota. Her work spans clinical audiology, population health, and auditory research, particularly focused on hearing loss, amplification, aging, traumatic brain injury, and the relationship between hearing aid use and cognitive outcomes.
Dr. Jorgensen earned her Ph.D. in Audiology (2012), her Au.D. (2008), and her M.A. (2007) from the University of Pittsburgh. She completed her B.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Washington in 2004. She holds licensure in audiology in South Dakota and is also certified as a Nursing Assistant.
Her research includes projects funded by NIH‐NIDCD, hearing industry partners, and others, investigating topics such as hearing aid adoption, the impact of treating hearing loss on cognition over time, verification and personalization of hearing aid fittings, and auditory processing issues among veterans. Her publications include peer‐reviewed articles on verification methods, device adoption, cognition, and pediatric hearing aid fitting standards.
Dr. Jorgensen has been recognized for her contributions with numerous honors, including being named a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (2022), receiving the Clinical Achievement Award from the South Dakota Speech‐Language & Hearing Association (2024), Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and multiple awards for excellence in teaching. She is also active in mentorship and community engagement, serving as PI on programs such as USD’s early intervention workforce development (PACE Scholars Program) and delivering speech & language services through United Way initiatives.
